Under 9s crowned champions of Kent!

Beckenham Gold team won the Kent Under 9s softball cricket competition at Dartford Cricket Club. Beckenham qualified as one of the 24 finalists out of an initial entry of over 90 teams.

After beating Bexley,  Hollingsbourne, and Bickley Park, Beckenham won the trophy with a nail-biting one run victory against Chelsfield in the final game to be crowned champions of Kent!

The team for yesterday’s finals day was Dylan, Ishan, Gabriel, Joseph, Archie, Harry, Joseph, George, Nameer and Freddie — with Malachi, Jonathan and Henry also contributing to the Beckenham Gold team during the qualifying competition that saw the team unbeaten.

Congratulations to the Under 11Cs

Congratulations to our Under 11C team who won the plate competition at the annual Bexley festival, on Sunday.

We took a young, developmental side, based around last year's successful Under 9 team.  We won our opening group match but then lost to two older, more experienced sides.

After lunch we moved into the plate competition and from here our boys improved markedly through the day, particularly in running between the wickets (which was hesitant in the first games but was great in the play-off games);  bowling and fielding (especially backing up throws) improved too. The performances were spread around, with everyone contributing runs, wickets, catches and run outs at different times.

We gained a thrilling last-ball win over Sidcup in the quarter finals; batted assertively to chase a high score against Old Dunstonian in the semis, then, batting first, set a competitive total and kept our discipline to overcome Bexley II to win the Plate final.

Jack McCrossan captained the side very well and all the boys contributed throughout the day - our team included Charlie Deighton, Dylan Hoad, Finlay Michael, Sammy Oswald-Barnshaw, Will Peters, Harry Roberts, Ishan Sabharwal and Alex Valder.

I was most impressed with the the boys' team spirit and sportsmanship during an exciting and exhausting day.

My particular thanks to Graham Woods (scorer), Ken Hoad (coach) and to all the parents and families who supported us throughout what was a long and enjoyable day.
